Model Abstract 3300-ES1 is a simplex printer that prints 172 impressions per minute (2-up, 8.5 x 11-inch, side-by-side) (162 IPM A4).
Model Abstract 3300-ED1 is a duplex printer system that prints 344 impressions per minute (2-up, 8.5 x 11-inch, side-by-side) (324 IPM A4).
Model Abstract 3300-ED2 is a duplex printer system that prints 344 impressions per minute (2-up, 8.5 x 11-inch, side-by-side) (324 IPM A4).

The IBM Infoprint 3300 ES1 and ED1/ED2 are based on the state-of-the- art Advanced Function Common Control Unit (AFCCU). The IBM Info Print 3300 ES1 and ED1/ED2 are equipped with the newest generation of the AFCCU which enables resolution switching from 480 dpi to 600 dpi and vice- versa. The AFCCU also has the capability of accepting 240 dpi, 300 dpi, or native 600 dpi datastreams, printing them in 480 or 600 dpi resolution. At 600 dpi resolution with appropriate host PSF support, the printer can accept datastreams of any resolution, including 240 dpi, 300 dpi, or native 600 dpi applications. In addition, the AFCCU enables host managed paper-jam recovery through the customer's post-processing equipment, operator function enabling flexibility, 128 MB (3300-ES1) or 256 MB (3300-ED1/ED2) of performance enabling memory.
Customers in the business of printing banking or financial statements, invoices, utility bills or other industries who send statements, bills, policies, and other forms of communications to their customers can utilize the IBM Infoprint 3000 printers to maximize the productivity of their printing operations. With the capability and flexibility of receiving either 240, 300, or 600 dpi datastreams and printing them on a single printer, customers can have the option of reducing overall printing costs by eliminating redundant printers that up to now were necessary to maintain the capability and options of printing either 240, 300, or 600 dpi datastreams in simplex or duplex.
EURO READY
The IBM Infoprint 3000 printer family contains printer resident fonts that make it capable of printing the new Euro currency symbol and code pages. It is also capable of using fonts downloaded from a host system via PSF. Although the printers are ready, the Euro fonts will be provided by IBM in the new version of the IBM AFP Font Collection in 4Q98.
IBM Printing Systems will support the Euro Currency.
The second group of devices referenced requires more "intelligent" communication between the AFCCU and the post-processing equipment. Included in this group are MICR check printers (order RPQ 8A8083 for MICR font support), selective color imprinters, all-points-addressable post- processing printers, etc. These devices require the "Advanced Function Post-processing Interface, feature number 4720, which provides 2-way intelligent communication between the device and the AFCCU. Inherent in this communication is the capability for recovery management from end to end of the paper path to the output side of the post-processor.
The print width is 17 inches (432 mm) and overall maximum paper forms width is 18 inches (457 mm).

Print Quality:
The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300 ED1/ED2 Printing Systems have IBM's exclusive Print Quality Enhancement (PQE) which smooths edges during 240 to 480 dpi and 300 to 600 dpi conversion of raster font data.
Edge smoothing is the reduction of the "stair-stepping" appearance of diagonal lines and curves.
Print contrast control allows the operator to adjust print darkness.
Achieving optimum print quality is dependent upon paper quality.

Paper Handling
Input Continuous Forms:
The Infoprint 3300-ES1, and ED1/ED2 Printers have a paper supply capacity of 15.5 inches (387.5 mm) of fanfold paper.
Special feature number 4710 (one comes standard on each engine) provides the attachment for high-capacity, roll-feed devices that will enable the customer to fully utilize the high-productivity capabilities of the IBM Infoprint 3000 family. Such roll-feed input devices enable continuous printing of several hours between paper loading.
There is a standard splicing station to minimize waste and increase operator efficiency.
Output Continuous Forms:
The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and ED1/ED2 Printers are provided with a stacker on each engine with a maximum paper capacity of up to 12 inches (300 mm) in height. The actual height may be operator adjusted to limit the weight of the output stack of paper. The stacker can stack paper with lengths between 7 and 14 inches (178 to 356 mm).
The ability to attach post-processing equipment (feature numbers 4710 and 4720) allows additional input and output capabilities.

The IBM Infoprint 3000 Advanced Function Continuous Forms Printers can print on normal fanfold paper, roll-feed paper, and preprinted forms. One of the key factors in achieving optimum print quality is the quality of the paper used for printing.
Certain applications may cause excessive wear or premature failure of some components of the 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2. In these situations, a customer with maintenance provided under the IBM Customer Agreement of IBM Machines may be liable for increased maintenance charges.
OCR and Bar Codes:
The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 Printing Systems can be used to print Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and bar code documents when attached to host environments. The AFCCU supports Bar Code Object Content Architecture (BCOCA) which enables the printing of bar codes without special bar code fonts. The OCR and bar codes produced by the 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 are designed to meet OCR and Bar Code printing standards. However, because of the variability of OCR readers, and bar code scanners, IBM advises customers to evaluate the IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2's OCR and bar code output in their application environment. The Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 support Postal Bar Codes (requires local certification by your local postal service). Refer to the Forms Design Reference for Continuous Forms Printers (G544-3921) for more detailed OCR and bar code information. The Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED2 control unit consists of a RS/6000 processor plus a Mechanism Interface Card (MIC). The MIC connects to the print engine, the operator panel, and the pre/post-processing interfaces. The MIC is connected to the RS/6000 processor via Serial Storage Architecture (SSA) cables. The host attachment connects to the RS/6000 processor as does the color touch panel operator console.
The operator console consists of an IBM color monitor and a touch- screen input device. The operator interface is based on XWindows and Motif. Motif is a set of interface standards set forth by the Open Software Foundation (OSF). These standards are supported by IBM.
Available host adapters for the AFCCU include S/370 parallel channel, ESCON fiber-optic serial channel, token-ring (TCP/IP), ethernet 10/100 BaseT (TCP/IP), FDDI (TCP/IP).
The Infoprint 3300-ED1 Printer Utility Module (PUM) consists of a Mechanism Interface Card (MIC). The MIC connects to the print engine, pre/post-processing interfaces, and the AFCCU via Serial Storage Architecture (SSA) cables.
Select Medium Modifications (SMM):
IPDS supports a command, Select Medium Modifications (SMM), which in conjunction with the AFCCU and the MIC selects one or more actions or modifications to be taken or inhibited on the current sheet of physical media (paper) being processed by post-processing equipment. See the Data Stream and Object Architectures, IPDS Reference (S544-3417).
The SMM command is used to invoke processing options through the Advanced Function Post-processing Interface feature (#4720).
PAGE POSITIONING FUNCTION
Basic N-Up Page Positioning:
With N-Up Page Positioning, you can print up to four pages in partitions on one side of a form which enables you to print much more data on a form, saving printer-usage costs, paper, and storage space.
Enhanced N-Up Page Positioning:
With Enhanced N-Up Page Positioning, you can place up to four pages at any location on a form--up to 8 pages on both sides of the forms in duplex system--in any orientation, and of any size.
Cut Sheet Emulation:
Cut Sheet Emulation (CSE) is an option on the printer console that automatically invokes an N-Up arrangement to emulate 2 side-by-side sheets of cut sheet paper. Duplex jobs print page 2 on the back of page 1 and page 4 on the back of page 3. CSE provides for different page arrangements to accommodate different post-processing requirements. Pages can be placed sequentially from left to right or right to left and right side up or upside down. CSE requires support in Print Services Facility (PSF). The console option for CSE has no effect unless the printer has a PSF that supports CSE.
Note: Cut Sheet Emulation applies to PSF/MVS, PSF/VM, or PSF/400 V3R1 only.

With the addition of Cut Sheet Emulation (CSE), you now have several options for formatting multiple-up application pages on a single printer sheet:
CSE can be used whenever the desired output is 2 pages of equal size, side-by-side on the same sheet. CSE is especially useful for moving applications for 8.5 x 11-inch forms to 2-up printing 11 x 17-inch forms. No change is required to the AFP form definition resource to enable CSE 2-Up printing. The same form definition can be used for printing 1-up on 8.5 x 11-inch forms or 2-up on 11 x 17-inch forms.
N-Up Page Positioning is needed for applications that require pages of different sizes or page positioning other than 2-up side by side. Instructions must be placed in the form definition for N-Up printing.

The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 supports outline fonts for both Double-Byte (DBCS) and Single-Byte (SBCS) character sets. Since outline foots are scalable and resolution independent, the same fonts can be used for printing at any point size and at either 480 dpi or 600 dpi resolution in any of the four supported print rotations. A wide range of outline font type styles in a variety of language families are also available as resident fonts on the 3300's hard disk. Outline fonts can be downloaded to the printer from PSF libraries.
Raster pattern fonts at 240 dpi are supported in SBCS and DBCS formats when printing in 480 dpi resolution. 300 dpi raster SBCS fonts will be supported when printing in 600 dpi resolution. At 600 dpi, the printer provides multiple IPDS resolution options: a 240 dpi option that supports 240 dpi raster fonts, a 300 dpi option that supports 300 dpi raster fonts, and an Automatic Resolution option that support raster fonts of both 240 and 300 dpi resolution. PSF multiple-resolution support is required to make use of the printers Automatic Resolution option.
Raster fonts must be downloaded from PSF host libraries in the resolution and size required for printing. Font sizes from 4 to 72 points (approximately 1-inch high) are supported. You must verify the legibility of the 4-point font sets in their applications. Only one copy of a font is required for all four font rotations in the printer. The font is oriented for printing at print time.
Raster fonts are supported by all PSF platforms. Printer resident outline fonts are supported by the latest maintenance levels of all PSFs except when using the DPF function of PSF for OS/2. Downloaded outline fonts are supported by all PSF platforms except PSF/VM. Multiple resolution support is provided by PSF/MVS 2.2 with APAR OW27622, and by Infoprint Manager(8).

RESIDENT OUTLINE FONTS:
Outline fonts listed below are provided on the AFCCU's hard drive. Courier Roman medium 12 pitch (10 point) is the printer default.
The following fonts consist of twelve type faces which provide compatibility with the resident raster fonts included in the 4028 Page Printer, as well as the most common typefaces of the IBM Compatibility fonts traditionally provided in the AFP Print Services Facility products.
DBCS FONTS:
Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Double-Byte Character Sets (DBCS)
G3, G4, MMR, and ABIC are supported.
Storage Capability:
The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 will utilize the latest AFCCU. The Infoprint 3300-ES1 has 128 MB of standard memory and the 3300-ED1/ED2 has 256 MB of standard memory for pattern storage, page buffer storage, and control storage.
Human Factors:
The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 are designed for efficient ease of operation, service, and installation. Accepted human factors principles have been applied specifically to frequent access areas such as paper threading and the operator interfaces. The touch-screen operator panel/display is one of the human factors features intended to improve and enhance the human interface with the overall printer-control or host-managed system.
Environment Impact Assessment Information:
The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 are designed to print to the perforation without degrading speed. As with other print-to-perforation printers, print quality degradation will occur near the perforation with fanfold paper that "tents" (that is, retains a "memory" of the fold). There will be no degradation at distances from the perforation of 1/3 inch (8.5 mm) for character data, and 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) for solid area fill, logos, or images. With a roll-feed paper input, no change in print quality should be apparent up to 2 mm of the perforation.
Footprint/Layout (3300-ED1/ED2):
IBM recommends either the "straight line" or the "reverse L" (the print engines form a "L" with the operator position facing inside the "L" toward the front of both print engines). A buffer/flipper device controls the paper flow between the two engines. (In the "reverse L" configuration the buffer/flipper device needs to be secured to the floor). Each print engine occupies approximately 24 square feet (2.23 square meters) of floor space with the AFCCU or Printer Utility Module (PUM). The total system with the buffer/flipper device will occupy approximately 72 square feet or 6.69 square meters dependent on the number of buffer pages between the two printers. This does not include pre/postprocessing devices.
Operator Controls:
The display and operator input functions of the IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2's are provided via a XGA touch screen. The touch-screen panel is the primary control panel utilized by both operator and customer engineer.
Additionally, there is an auxiliary control panel on the stacker or PUM end of each engine. This auxiliary panel has STOP, READY, and STACKER ADJUSTMENT controls.
An operator alert facility that includes a flashing light and an audible alarm with volume control is located on top of a pedestal that is mounted to the top of the AFCCU or Printer Utility Module (PUM). The AFCCU is attached to the right side of the print engine. The operator alert, mounted flush with the top of the AFCCU, reaches 8 inches (200 mm) above the top of the AFCCU and overall print engine top. There is also a jack/plug for remote attachment of operator attention equipment (using customer-supplied power).
Direct-printing:
The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 or 3300-ED1/ED2's may be used as a direct output device (direct-printing) when attached to an OS/390 or MVS host system. When the IBM Infoprint 3000 Advanced Function Continuous Forms Printer is used in direct-printing mode, Print Services Facility/MVS (PSF/MVS) provides exclusive use of a particular application. The user with direct control of the IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 or 3300-ED1/ED2 cannot take advantage of system-assisted restart, data set checkpointing, multiple data set processing, or use of operator commands available through JES to control the printer.
OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 operate in a class A1 environment and will meet or exceed all worldwide regulations as they apply to environmental impact for business machines of this type.

The Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 support a maximum of two attachments. These attachments can be:
System/370 Parallel Channel:
System/370 parallel channel attachment is supported on OS/390, PSF/MVS, PSF/VM, and PSF/VSE printing environments.
ESCON channel is supported on OS/390, PSF/MVS, PSF/VM, and PSF/VSE printing environments.
When these conditions are met for ESCON then the multihost flag can be set to "TRUE" in the printer. This will automatically invoke the protocol allowing the printer to print only one host (or OS/390 guest of VM) at a time. When the first host is printing the second host will receive an "assigned elsewhere" message until the first host is finished printing and releases the printer.
Token-Ring (TCP/IP) Attachment:
Token-Ring (TCP/IP) attachment is supported on PS/400, PSF for AIX, and Infoprint Manager for AIX printing environments along with selected RS/6000 and AS/400 models.
The 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 are connected to the host Token-Ring through the IBM Token-Ring cabling via the Token Ring High-performance adapter, which is contained in the AFCCU.
The control unit can be attached to either a 16 Mbit/sec or a 4 Mbit/sec Token-Ring LAN.

ft) from the 8228 Multistation Access Unit or 8230 Controlled Access
Unit.
The distance between the 8228 Multistation Access Units can be increased with either the 8220 or 8219 Optical Fiber Repeater.
Ethernet 10/100 BaseT (TCP/IP) attachment is supported on PSF/400, PSF for AIX, and Infoprint Manager for AIX printing environments.
An Ethernet Adapter Card is supplied with Specify Feature number 9993 and Special Feature number 4165. The adapter card is installed in the IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and ED2 AFCCU processors. The IBM InfoPrint 3300-ES1 and ED1/ED2 may then be attached to an Ethernet LAN.
FDDI (TCP/IP) attachment is supported on PSF for AIX and Infoprint Manager printing environments and for selected RS/6000 models.
The Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 are connected to the host FDDI through FDDI 62.5/125 multimode fiber cabling using SC connectors via the FDDI Single Station adapter, which is contained in the AFCCU.

The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 support a maximum of TWO attachments. A NEW order may be specified with ONE of the attachments as the customer's standard (no extra cost) attachment. The standard attachment is specified using one of the "Specify Features" listed below:
The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 can maintain a connection with either of the channels as a single device. The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 can be configured for "manual" (operator selected) or for "dynamic" (on demand from the host switching). In manual mode,the channels may be connected to the same host or to two independent hosts, with one channel being enabled at a time. In dynamic mode, the two parallel channels may be connected to the same host or to two hosts that are tightly coupled.
Note: Dynamic channel switching is not supported between "mixed" attachments (i.e. parallel and ESCON channels).

The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 can maintain a connection with either of the channels as a single device. The IBM Infoprint 3300-ES1 and 3300-ED1/ED2 can be configured for "manual" (operator selected) or for "dynamic" (on demand from the host switching). In manual mode, the channels may be connected to the same host or to two independent hosts, with one channel being enabled at a time. In dynamic mode, the two ESCON channels may be connected to the same host or to two hosts that are tightly coupled.
Note: Dynamic channel switching is not supported between "mixed" attachments (i.e. parallel and ESCON channels).

The Performance Enhancement feature improves the processing performance of the AFCCU. This feature can improve printer throughput for jobs printing below printer rated speed if the throughput of those jobs is limited by printer processing capability. It cannot improve performance for jobs for which throughput is limited by other factors such as, attachment or host system delivery capacity. The amount of improvement will depend on application characteristics and printer resolution. The Pre/Post-processing interface provides electrical interface for the attachment of OEM pre-and post-processing equipment to the Infoprint 3300-ED1 and the 3300-ED1/ED2 printers. The 4710 feature also provides control of add-on pre/post-processing devices (such as, continuous forms stackers, envelope inserting equipment, roll-feed equipment, among others). Additionally, this feature disables the standard stacker functions.
Note: While this 4710 feature is similar to that of the IBM 3900 and Infoprint 4000 printers the actual hardware is different and can not be used on the Infoprint 3300-ES1 or 3300-ED1/ED2 Printers.
A maximum of three of these feature codes may be installed on the Infoprint 3300-ES1 or 3300-ED1 Printers. Or two of the 4710 feature code and one of the 4720 feature code (Advanced Function Post-processing Interface) may be installed on each printer.

For average yields for all supplies, refer to the Infoprint 3000 Advanced Function Printers Introduction and Planning Guide (544-5427). The approximate yields when using the Infoprint 3000 Developer Mix (P/N 1402829) will vary with toner coverage, machine settings, paper type and size, and environmental conditions. Applications with extensive bar codes or solid area fill can expect to achieve yields lower than that achieved with the average text page.
