Complex business environments require a flexible print solution that meets many diverse needs. Businesses need a traditional production printer with the versatility to print special forms and labels- all with exceptional quality.

New and improved benefits
The Infoprint 62 helps to streamline supply chain management by ensuring that your products have accurate, legible labels that can be easily scanned.

As a warehouse automation system, the Infoprint 62 cost-effective prints documents at the point-of-need. Print jobs can be submitted to the Infoprint 62 using a corporate intranet, providing easy access from all parts of your enterprise. By supporting a wide range of paper, one IBM Infoprint 62 can replace the need for several specialty printers.

Superior Reliability
The IBM Infoprint 62 offers the reliability of a continuous forms printer. It accurately registers print placement on continuous forms making it well-suited to print bar codes and Optical Character

Recognition (OCR) applications. The straight paper path minimizes operator intervention and allows the use of difficult-to-print heavy stock and labels. Because the paper stays flat, labels are less likely to peel off, and heave stock doesn't tear at paper perforations. The printer uses non-contect flash-fusing technology, which makes it ideal for both production printing and special forms printing, such as heavy stock, labels and ID cards.

And what's more, you can be confident that The Infoprint 62 is both Year 2000-ready and EuroReady.

Leading-Edge Controller
The new, powerful Advanced Function Common Control Unit (AFCCU) leverages IBM's enhanced RISC System/6000 technology. Compressed images, graphics, outline fonts and printer-generated bar codes can be processed and rendered at rated speeds.

The control unit includes a diskette drive and hard disk for font and resource storage and easy microcode updates. In addition, it offers flexible attachment possibilities, such as Ethernet or Token Ring for LAN connection, or S/370 Parallel Channel or ESCON for host attachment.

User-Friendly Design
The auto load and auto unload features simplify paper management. The operator simply inserts the paper into the input tractors and it loads automatically when a job starts. At the end of a job, the printer cuts the paper and repositions the leading edge at the input tractors. This procedure simplifies paper handling and minimizes paper waste.

Enhanced Printing Capabilities
The IBM Infoprint 62 fully leverages the IBM Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) software to provide enhanced printing capabilities that include:

  • Application flexibility, including electronic forms, bar codes and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) characters
  • Printing vector graphics, compressed images and text anywhere on the page
  • Printing with multiple fonts

Description
The IBM Infoprint 62 Printer is an intermediate speed, all points addressable (APA) continuous forms printer. It is available in 240 dots-per-inch (dpi) and 300 dpi resolution.

The maximum print width is 14.6 inches, and the IBM Infoprint 62 Printer uses an electrophotographic (EP) process.

The printer uses a noncontact flash fusing system, which eliminates fuser warm up time and allows a wide range of media.

The Paper Path
The IBM Infoprint 62 Printer engine has a single input feeding from boxed paper on the floor. The output feeds to either the gravity passive stacker, or the optional power stacker, which replaces the gravity stacker.

Autoload and auto-unload are standard. To load paper, the operator simply inserts the paper into the input tractors. To unload paper, the operator presses the unload key. The printer then cuts the paper and feeds it in the reverse direction until the leading edge is at the input tractors.

Paper Types
IBM Infoprint 62 Printer supports:
A wide variety of commonly accepted and approved fan-fold paper

A wide variety of applications using:
Pre-printed forms
Pre-punched forms
Perforated forms
Security forms
Approved labels
Color paper

Media with the following characteristics:
Type: Fanfold paper, labels
Pressure sensitive papers (Polyester, Polypropylene)
Plain paper

Usage Counter
The printer has a mechanical counter to count the number of feet of paper printed. Each count corresponds to one foot.

IBM Advanced Function Common Control Unit (AFCCU)
The AFCCU supplies the following functions:
Print Server (Host) attachment
Intelligent Printer Data Stream (IPDS) processing
Local operator interface
Service interface through the LCD-based operator panel
Mechanism control
Printhead interface

The AFCCU provides an excellent commonality across products. The operator interface and high-level mechanism control are all provided in the AFCCU.

Attachment Features
Ethernet 10BaseT attachment capability is standard on the IBM Infoprint 62 Printer. In addition, Token Ring, Ethernet 10Base2, a Parallel Channel adapter, or an ESCON channel adapter may be ordered. There is a maximum of two attachment adapters, in addition to the standard Ethernet 10BaseT adapter. The maximum number allowable for each type of adapter is one.

Only one attachment may be active at a time. The active attachment is selected through the printer operator panel.

#4121 Token-Ring Attachment:
The maximum number orderable for this feature is one. The customer must provide the cable for attachment to the LAN. This attachment accepts a shielded or unshielded RJ45 plug. This adapter can be set up during installation to operate as either SNA or TCP/IP.

#4162 Ethernet Attachment- 10Base2
The maximum number orderable for this feature is one. The customer must provide the cable for attachment to the LAN.

#4110 S/390 Parallel Channel Adapter
The maximum number orderable for this feature is one. Channel cables are included and must be ordered separately.

#4131 ESCON Serial Channel
The ESCON serial channel is supported in the PSF for OS/390, PSF/MVS, PSF/VM, and PSF/VSE printing environments.

The InfoPrint 62 may be attached natively to ESCON channels on an IBM 9021, 9121, 9221, 9672, and 3090-J processors.

Attachment is also supported via the 9032/9033 ESCON Directors, and 9036 Remote Channel Extender Model 1 and Model 2.

A maximum of one ESCON attachment per InfoPrint 62 is allowed.

Attachment Feature Maximums
Ethernet 10BaseT attachment capability is standard on the IBM InfoPrint 62 Printer. In addition, a Token-Ring adapter, an Ethernet 10Base2 adapter, a S/390 Parallel Channel adapter, or an ESCON fiber optic serial channel adapter may be ordered. There is a maximum of two attachment adapters. The maximum number allowable for each type of adapter is one. Only one adapter can be active at any time. Two adapters cannot be active at the same time.

Power and Gravity Stacker
The Power Stacker (#4621 and #5621) uses a swing-arm to push paper to fold at perforations to ensure that paper folding is correct. The gravity stacker relies on the folds in the paper.

When the power stacker (#4621) is ordered with the initial order, the power stacker replaces the standard gravity stacker, and no gravity stacker is shipped.

When the power stacker (MES #5621) is ordered to replace the gravity stacker that was originally shipped, the power stacker replaces the existing gravity stacker, and the gravity stacker can no longer be used. Only the power stacker can then be used.

The gravity stacker includes wheels and can be easily removed from the IBM Infoprint 62 Printer by the operator. The gravity stacker can then be used to transport and to store paper. Additional gravity stackers (# 4622) are available.

The power stacker reduces the stacking capacity to 2,000 sheets from 3,000 sheets with the standard gravity stacker. Also, the maximum paper length (between folds) is 12 inches when the power stacker is installed, and 22 inches when the gravity stacker is installed.

Forms Handling and Forms Saving Features
The InfoPrint 62 has a user-friendly Operator Panel that allows the operator to perform tasks such as forms size selection and loading and unloading paper.

The autoload and unload features minimize paper waste. At the end of a job, the InfoPrint 62 can cut the paper and move it back to the beginning of the paper tractors, ready to be unloaded by the operator. This is an advantage when using expensive forms or sequentially numbered forms, such as vouchers or tickets.

The InfoPrint 62 can also place the banner page so that it will always be on the "top" of the output stack, to allow the operator to easily separate and handle jobs.

When cutting a form at the end of a job, the InfoPrint 62 calculates where to cut so that the next job will stack successfully.

Optionally, the "banner on top" can be disabled to save forms. The "calculated cut" can be disabled only with the gravity stacker.

Note: (1) A PSF/VSE and PSF/VM do not support the Infoprint 62 directly with Token-Ring TCP/IP. However, a system with PSF/2 or PSF/6000 can attach to a PSF/VSE or PSF/VM system, and the PSF/2 or PSF/6000 can furnish the TCP/IP support for the Infoprint 62.

PSF Support Notes
Basic N-UP
Enables printing output that places one, two, three, or four pages in sequence in equal-sized partitions.
Enhanced N-UP (Page Positioning) enables:
Page Orientation - where individual pages can be placed in any position in any orientation and in any size that will fit on the sheet.
Overlays - which can be placed relative to any partition origin with or without variable page data from the application program. Different overlays can be specified for each page.
Offsets - where different offsets can be specified for each page.
Form Ejection - Can be used to eject to a new partition or a new sheet.
DBCS resident outline font support is dependent upon the support being available in the printer.
PSF for OS/390
A PSF 3.1.0 for OS/390 APAR is required for Infoprint 62 ESCON Channel support. The APAR is OW37008.
PSF/MVS Support
A PSF/MVS 2.2.0 APAR is required for Infoprint 62 S/370 Parallel Channel support. The APAR is OW26508.
A PSF/MVS 2.2.0 APAR is required for Infoprint 62 ESCON Channel support. The APAR is OW36959.

PSF/VSE Support Notes
The APAR for PSF/VSE support for S/390 Parallel Channel is DY44429 and UD50321.
PSF/VSE does not support the Infoprint 62 directly with TCP/IP. However, a system with PSF/2 or PSF/6000 can attach to a PSF/VSE system, and the PSF/2 or PSF/6000 can furnish the TCP/IP support for the Infoprint 62.
AS/400 Support Notes:
Large print - Printing with the large print function for OfficeVision/400 is not supported. Also, the AS/400 (DDS) key word CHRSIZ function is not supported.
Bolding - The following fonts cannot be bolded when using OfficeVision/400 or the AS/400 (DDS) key word HIGHLIGHT function: Boldface, Gothic Text, Gothic Katakana, OCR A, OCR B, Prestige Italic, or fonts that are already boldfaced fonts.
300 PEL Fonts
The 300 PEL PRPQ (5799-FDK) is required for printing with 300 PEL fonts, such as the IBM 4028 Compatibility Set.
PSF/2 Support Notes:
Resident fonts are not supported when using the DFP function of PSF/2.
When using PSF DIRECT, the function supported is equivalent to that provided by the HOST PSF.
When using PCL (of any kind) or PPDS output, resident fonts are not supported.

PSF/6000 Support Notes:
When using PSF DIRECT, the function supported is equivalent to that provided by the HOST PSF.

PSF/VM Support Notes:
N-up and resident font support requires maintenance in addition to release 2.1.1.
Resident DBCS raster font support includes UDC support.
Resident DBCS outline font support does not include UDC support.

PSF/VM does not support the Infoprint 62 directly with TCP/IP. However, a system with PSF/2 or PSF/6000 can attach to a PSF/VM system, and the PSF/2 or PSF/6000 can furnish the TCP/IP support for the Infoprint 62.
