IBM InfoPrint Color 70 100 130 (3170) Series

The IBM 3170 consists of the InfoColor 70, the InfoPrint Color 100, and the InfoPrint Color 130.

Model Abstract 3170-001

The IBM 3170 Full Color Digital Printer/Press Model 001 produces high- quality process color jobs at a speed of 70 A4 impressions per minute (up to 4200 per hour) when printing duplex, or 35 A4 impressions per minute in simplex mode. Either simplex or duplex, the print speed is 35 A4 sheets per minute. It prints at a spatial resolution of 600 dots per inch (dpi) with up to 16 gray levels per dot for each of the four basic colors. Proprietary screening allows images to be printed at a screen frequency of 170 lines per inch. It is compatible with PostScript** datastreams from standard pre-press platforms, and attaches via an Ethernet local area network (LAN).

Model Abstract 3170-01C

The IBM 3170 Model 01C has the functions of Model 001 plus the added capabilities of the Electronic Collator. The Electronic Collator provides the capability of storing up to 32GB of compressed and rasterized data. This is equivalent to about 500 pages of a typical magazine with a data depth of 4 bits per spot (bps), or 1,000 pages at 2 bps. For pure text, the Collator could store 5,000 to 10,000 pages. This Electronic Collator consists of a high-speed disk array that can store collated pages, to enable printing of large collated documents. Collated documents, with each page entirely different, can be printed at the rated IBM 3170 print speeds. Multiple copies of a book can be printed so that the pages of each copy are printed in collated order. The first collated set is available before the second is started.

Model Abstract 3170-002

The IBM 3170 InfoColor 70 Model 002 full-color printers produce high- quality process color jobs at a speed of 70 A4 impressions per minute (up to 4200 per hour) when printing duplex, or 35 A4 impressions per minute in simplex mode.

Model Abstract 3170-02C

The IBM 3170 InfoColor 70 Model 02C Printer and Collator contains a high-speed disk array that can store collated pages, to enable printing of large collated documents. Collated documents, with each page entirely different, can be printed at the rated print speeds. Multiple copies of a book can be printed so that the pages of each copy are printed in collated order. The first collated set is available before the second is started.

Model Abstract 3170-02D

The IBM 3170 InfoColor 70 Model 02D with 64GB Collator offers improved price/performance and twice the storage capacity of the previous model. It contains a 64GB disk array that consists of 16 4GB disk drives and IBM's PowerPC technology. It produces high-quality process color jobs at a speed of 70 A4 impressions per minute (up to 4200 per hour) when printing duplex, or 35 A4 impressions per minute in simplex mode. The 64GB disk array can store about 1000 typical full-color magazine pages at 4 bits-per-spot (bps), or 2,000 typical pages at 2 bps, to enable printing of large collated documents. Collated documents, with each page entirely different (with or without variable data), can be printed at the rated print speeds. Multiple copies of a book can be printed so that the pages of each copy are printed in collated order. The first collated set is available before the second is started.

Model Abstract 3170-03D

The IBM 3170 Model 03D InfoPrint Color 100 printer brings the advantages of electronic publishing to color printing. The IBM InfoPrint 100 is ideal for short-run, high-quality, full color applications. The InfoPrint Color 100 extends variable data capabilities to the entire page, allowing 100% of each printed page to be completely different - independent of page content and at full-rated speed. This degree of variability means more effective marketing communications, better relationship building, and ultimately, the potential to generate more revenue per customer.

Model Abstract 3170-004

The IBM 3170 Infoprint Color 130 Model 004 is a Web printer that features a full 475.1 mm (18.7 inch) print width on 500 to 508 mm width paper.
