The IBM 4895 is the M32 Multifunction Printer (MFP) Option.

The IBM 4895 M32 Multifunction Printer (MFP) Option Model 001 includes a scanner with up to 34 pages-per-minute (PPM)(1) monochrome and up to 19 PPM(1) color that works with the IBM Infoprint Color 1228 or 1357 printer. This option adds scan, copy, fax, and e-mail capability and is customer-installable with your printer.

The IBM M32 Multifunction Printer (MFP) Option works with the Infoprint Color 1357 printer or Infoprint Color 1228 printer to provide user-friendly functions that complement the printer. The M32 provides the capability to:

  • Scan once and print many
  • Perform electronic routing
  • Fax and e-mail scanned documents
  • Use as walk-up fax or fax from workstation

The IBM M32 MFP Option provides multifunction capability for the Infoprint Color 1357 workgroup printer or Infoprint Color 1228 printer. The printer must have the following:

Infoprint Color 1357 network model printer or Infoprint Color 1228 printer -- Other model printers with internal or external network interfaces are not compatible. A network printer minimum code version applies.

At least 256 MB of memory -- Additional memory or hard drive features can increase performance or capabilities for copy, fax, scan, or print functions depending on the number of pages, page complexity, and operations selected (such as collate or high resolution scan).

Network access to simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) e-mail gateway server for e-mail function -- Network access must be done via the printer's built in 10/100BaseTX Ethernet network print server.

An active analog telephone line or network access to a fax server is required for the fax function.

A customer-provided table, MFP shelf feature, or MFP furniture feature may be required. Furniture may restrict or preclude some input or output options due to physical limitations.

The printer's resident Web page allows a browser to remotely view and manage the MFP Option.

MFP capabilities include:

A 68 IPM monochrome, 36 IPM color letter size paper maximum scan area (A3/11 x 17 inch) flatbed single pass duplex scanner with 50-sheet ADF and touch screen operator panel

User authentication using LDAP, NT/Windows 2000, or internal list

Virtual keyboard

Scan function includes:

  • Multiple destination support such as file server, FTP, e-mail attachment, and Web site
  • Resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi
  • File format support include TIFF, JPG, PDF, and PostScript level 2

Copy function includes:

  • Scan once and print many with duplex output
  • Duplex with original to copy of 1 to 1, 1 to 2, 2 to 1, or 2 to 2
  • Reduction/enlargement from 25% to 400%
  • Add separator page between each copy set
  • Margin shift that scales image to provide up to a 2-inch left-hand margin for hole punch or binding
  • Create sequence of collated output that forms a booklet when folded in half

The M32 includes a 33.6 Kbps fax modem. Fax function includes:

  • Send and receive fax
  • Duplex original for one step faxing
  • Up to 9,999 shortcut keys to designate individuals or groups
  • Delayed transmission where user specifies time and date to send fax
  • Fax queue that lists outgoing faxes and a current incoming fax

Usage Rate

The maximum monthly usage is 10,000 scans.

Authentication

Four modes set for each function (Copy, Fax, E-mail, Profiles):

  • Function Off: no one has access
  • Function On: everyone has access
  • User ID: requires username to access
  • User Authentication: requires username and password to access

Three sources for authentication (global selection):

  • LDAP: uses the company's LDAP database directory
  • NT/Windows 2000: uses the company's NT/Windows 2000 domain
  • Internal: uses an internal list generated by the System Administrator

Virtual Keyboard

The keyboard will automatically appear on the touch screen anytime a numeric or alpha-numeric entry is required

Copy Job Setup

  • Copy Quantity: Set number of copies 1 to 999; scans original only once
  • Special Copy Media: Select various copy media based on the media loaded in the printer
  • Scale: Scales the image output from 25% to 400%
  • Stretch: Scales the length or width of the image output from 25% to 400%
  • Paper Saver: 2-up or 4-up, portrait or landscape copy output
  • Date/Time Stamp: Puts the date and time on the top of each copy page (mm/dd/yy or dd/mm/yy)

    Profiles

    • Profiles are loaded from three (3) sources:
    • Temporary profile from a user PC using the printer Web page
    • Temporary profile from a user PC using the ScanBack utility

    Note: Temporary profiles are deleted after use.

    Listings: Presents a list of active profiles

    Sort: User can sort listings by alphanumeric or shortcut number

    Non-interactive Profiles:

    • Select a profile name or profile shortcut #
    • No user input required
    • Loaded from Web page, ScanBack, or LDD Server

    Advanced profiles (requires LDD Server):

    • User input or predefined list of input choices
    • Static Profile Prompt: User enters alpha-numeric data or answers LDD prompts
    • Dynamic Profile Prompt: User is prompted by LDD server for input based on answer to each prompt

    System Administration

    System Configuration

    System configuration is performed using the Web pages located in the M32 controller. The Web pages can be accessed at the MFP using the M32 touch screen and virtual keyboard, or remotely from the administrators PC. Access to the configuration screens can be pass word protected. It is recommended that once the device has an IP address, the remaining configuration be done from a Web browser by pointing to the IP address of the device. From the System Configuration screen the Administrator can set the defaults for:

    General Setup:

    • Set timeouts, hours of operation, enter a contact name/phone number for assistance
    • Import/Export Destination Files: Copy all MFP settings from one MFP to another
    • Copy Defaults: Set copy presentation, quality, finishing, output bin, etc.
    • Fax/Fax Server Setup: Set station name/number, fax queue access, cover page, quality, redial, fax log, etc.
    • Scan to Network General Setup: Set quality, file type, confirmation page, etc.
    • Scan to E-mail General Setup: Set SMTP gateway, reply address, subject/message, etc.

    Function Access: Set user access for copy, fax, e-mail, and profiles; configuration of internal authentication parameters and LDAP server parameters.

    Manage Destinations: Setup shortcuts for e-mail, fax and FTP, and delete profiles.

    Printer/Print Server: Access to printer Web page.

    Update MFP software: Allows updates to the MFP controller software.

    Create Scan Profiles: Utility to create permanent scan profiles.

    NT/Windows 2000 Domain Setup

    Registering the MFP with the NT/Windows 2000 Domain cannot be done remotely through the Web pages. It must be done at the MFP and requires administrator's privileges on the domain to be registered. The following information is needed for NT/Windows 2000 domain registration and are entered through the 5500 touch screen and virtual keyboard:

    • Domain Name
    • Domain PDC Name
    • Administrator User ID and Password

    Calibrate Touch Screen

    Used to recalibrate the touch screen if required.

    Print Reports

    Presents the Administrator a list of reports for simple one-touch printing.

    The M32 MFP Option is compatible with the following Fax Server software:

    Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS)

    The M32 MFP Option is compatible with Kofax Ascent Capture version 5, Ricochet Capture, and Ricochet Coversheet products. The scan-to-network capability of the MFP can be used to instantly scan documents over the network to Kofax Ricochet Capture or Ricochet Coversheet products. Ascent Capture can recognize, index, quality assure, and release documents into many EDMS applications.

    The Ascent Capture application supports systems from many leading EDMS providers, including:

    Adobe, Altris Software, A.I.S., Anite Public Sector, asOne, CyLex, Documentum, DocuWARE, Eastman, Excalibur, Fabasoft, FileNET, Full Circle, Gauss Interprise, Hershey Technologies, Hummingbird, Hyland Software, IBM, icomXpress, IMR, InterTech, Kainos, LaserFiche, LizardTech, MDY Advanced Tech, Mobius, Open Text, Optika, OTG, Quest, SolCom, Systemware.

    FileNET

    The scan-to network capability of the M32 MFP Option and the Infoprint Color 1357 allow documents to be scanned over the network and into FileNET's Panagon Capture Professional module. By adding Document Distributor Server software, an end-user can be prompted to enter alphanumeric index information on the MFP's front panel to be included with the scanned document.

    Connectivity

    Cables

    A 2.4 meter RJ-45 cable is supplied with the M32 to connect the scanner control unit to the printer. The RJ-45 cable to connect the scanner control unit to the Ethernet wall outlet is the customer's responsibility. A 2.1 meter RJ-11 cable is supplied to connect the scanner control unit the telephone outlet.

    The Infoprint COlor 1357 network model printer comes standard with Ethernet 10/100BaseTx built-in to the controller. The standard Ethernet connection supports Network Plug and Print 2.0 on Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 systems and the following protocols:
