Ethernet Print Servers for Centronics-Compatible Printers

XConnect II Overview
The XConnect II is a high-performance multiprotocol print server that connects virtually any type of printer to an Ethernet and/or LocalTalk network. It provides both a parallel and a serial port, and connects directly to the parallel port of the printer to provide the highest performance and to eliminate extra cabling. The parallel port is compatible with the IEEE P1284, so it can be used with software that requires bidirectional communications, such as AppleTalk and DECprint Supervisor. The serial port can be used for either a console terminal or a serial printer. For maximum flexibility, the XConnect II includes both 10base2 and 10baseT Ethernet connectors.

The XConnect II Lite is a low-cost version of the XConnect II that offers support for two protocols and a single Ethernet connector type. Like the standard XConnect II, it features a high-performance IEEE P1284 interface, a serial port, and flash memory.

The XConnect II is available in six models:

• XConnect II-8S (10base2/10baseT; TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, AppleTalk, DLC/LLC, NetBEUI, http protocols)
• XConnect II- 8 (10base2/10baseT; TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, AppleTalk, LAT, http protocols; NDS support on this model is limited to NPRINTER remote printer mode)
• XConnect II-8-LN03 (10base2/10baseT with LN03 emulation; TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, AppleTalk, LAT, http protocols; NDS support on this model is limited to NPRINTER remote printer mode)
• XConnect II-8N (10base2/10baseT; TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, AppleTalk, LAT, DLC/LLC, NetBEUI, LAT, VINES IP, and http)
• XConnect IIL-2 (10base2; TCP/IP, IPX/SPX; NDS support on this model is limited to NPRINTER remote printer mode)
• XConnect IIL-T XConnect IIL-T (10baseT; TCP/IP, IPX/SPX; NDS support on this model is limited to NPRINTER remote printer mode)
